Resource Center

SOLD’s Resource Center is the hub of The Freedom Project, our holistic prevention program in Northern Thailand. Situated right in the middle of the village where most of our students live, the Resource Center offers daily after-school programs, tutoring, weekly English classes, special workshops, Human Trafficking Awareness programs, and more.

The main goal of our Thai staff is to give every one of our scholarship kids the tools they need to succeed. We want to do everything we possibly can to help them achieve their educational and personal goals, so we offer a safe place for them to hang out and enjoy access to educational resources, art supplies, and people to assist them in any way possible.

Mentorship

Positive role models are so important for the children as they're growing up and pursuing an education, so every child receiving a scholarship is mentored by one of our Thai staff members. We also encourage our older scholarship students to mentor a few of their younger peers, teaching leadership skills and reinforcing community ties. These relationships will help our students foster a better understanding of higher learning and empower them to realize that they, too, can work towards getting a good education and achieve their dreams.

Awareness

Discussing the realities of human trafficking and educating those who are at risk is one of the most important aspects of preventing exploitation. Twice a year, The Freedom Project offers human trafficking awareness training to our scholarship children, their families, and the surrounding communities. These sessions inform individuals about trafficking and the risk that they are at due to poverty and lack of education. Starting in 2012, we've trained our older students to lead portions of these seminars, equipping them to be ambassadors in their schools and community.
