Test Screening Re:Cap

July 31, 2008

Our test screening on Tuesday night was a success: with a 150-person turnout we received challenging and encouraging feedback from our participants. Thank you to those of you that came to support us!

The next steps have formulated themselves for us and our vision has become clearer than ever. This issue of child prostitution is a complex one, and the more we continue to learn about it and talk to women and children who’s lives have been affected by this, the more complex telling it becomes. Then again, stories are never simple, are they?

Our journey to Thailand began with a simple question: Does child prostitution exist, and if so, how can we help stop it? Yes, it does exist. And yes, we can help stop it. What suprised us, however, was the complexity behind the issue: the driving factor being the vulnerability of poverty, and how people, even children, will do desperate things to survive, including selling themselves.

We learned that amidst the heartache, there is hope. Hope in prevention.

You have given us wonderful feedback, and challenged our hearts and minds to keep pressing forward: to tell these stories in a way that brings justice to these children. We are encouraged, and we are inspired. Our premiere has been postponed to the winter of 08 in allowance of time to complete these necessary changes. In the meantime we are busy traveling, speaking, and fundraising. The movement has begun, and the lives of these children have already been transformed.

Keith Brown : Film

When I first heard of the issue of Human Trafficking my heart felt like it was being stuck with a million needles, piercing through every ounce of love I have ever had. From that moment on I knew to much to not do anything. My life will forever be dedicated in the change.

It was about three years ago I was introduced to the most horrific lifestyle I have heard. Men buying children for sex, for pleasures, for fun. I was sickened by the thought. What can I do? What is there
to be done? These questions have been in my thoughts ever since. I had done research and learned even more than I wanted to at the time. Kids even at the age of 2 and 3 being sold! I had learned to much to not do anything, I now know to much to not do anything. It was a few months back that I found The Sold Project and was introduced to the Rachels. From the time I met them I knew this was a place where I needed to get connected. I moved to L.A. for other reasons but soon knew I must do something to bring awareness of Human Trafficking. I started talking to people and letting them know about the issue. So many didn’t want to hear it, many told me I just ruined their day. I kept fighting to
spread the word. I found a group of guys and we decided we were going to get together with the Sold Project crew and film each of their hearts and hear their stories. I feel that this short film can help
spread their vision and let outsiders hear their hearts. We are now in the process of finishing up this short and hope to share it with all who will listen. I thank The Sold Project and the Rachels for letting
me be apart of their dreams, and helping make mine come true. If we all work together, and fight this issue, something can and will be done.

ABC NEWS : Domestic Sex Trafficking in the U.S.

July 16, 2008

433 Child Victims have been recovered in the last year… “There are children throughout the United States who are being sold as prostitutes,” said FBI special agent Mike Beaver. “It’s not uncommon to see 12- and 13-year-olds out. What we’ve learned is if you have adult prostitution in an area, there’s probably child prostitution occurring as well. So it’s more of a black market; it’s more underground, but it’s there.” To read more, visit abcnews.

Internet impeding crackdown on child prostitution

Ashley Judd Speaks out Against Human Trafficking

Ashley Judd Speaks Out Against Human Trafficking
4-Jun-2008
Written by: E. Van Dril

The actress appeared in front of the United Nations committee.

Ashley Judd spoke out against the unspoken human trafficking that is going on around the world, Tuesday.

She explained at the United Nations that approximately 2.5 million people worldwide (mostly women and children) are trafficked in the world today.

The industry, according to Judd, is worth around $32 billion.

“I know that the unheard are helped when they are heard,” the actress said at a press conference afterwards. “I know that compassionate listening helps me, and my goal was to help the U.N. help them.”

The way Judd became interested in human trafficking was actually somewhat of an accident when she was promoting public health on a 12-nation tour. During this time, she saw slums, hospices, brothels and other poor medical facilities.

This isn’t the only cause the 40-year-old is interested in. She also serves as a global ambassador for YouthAIDS, which is a prevention and education program that attempts to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS to young adults across the globe.
